Ancient Egyptian Foods • The ancient Egyptians’ main dish was bread. Their bread was usually made out of emmer wheat. • Wealthy people ate beef, a little sheep, and goat. If there was an option other than pig, they wouldn’t eat pig. • Poor people had a different diet. They mostly ate goat, sheep, and pig. They didn’t eat very much beef. • Both wealthy and poor ate geese and ducks. They also ate fish too. But if something else was available, wealthy people wouldn’t eat fish. • They had cows, goats, and sheep, so they had milk, butter, and cheese.
Ancient Egyptian foods • Ancient Egyptains had vegetables like peas, beans, onions, turnips, leeks, lettuce, and cucumbers. • Ancient Egyptians also had herbs like aniseed, fennel, mustard, cumin, and dill. • Ancient Egyptians also had fruit like grapes, figs, watermelon, dates, and plums. Poor people also used fruits to sweeten their food. • They also had eggs from ducks and geese. They didn’t have any chickens, though. • They had honey, and the wealthy people used it to sweeten their other food. They also did other things with it.
