  3. The head of the state was the pharaoh who was considered a living God and had unlimited power.

  4. No Misbehaviour • Honour had to be Defended • Peace kept between Neighbours • People’s Lives and Property were to be Protected • Had to Report a Crime

  5. Egyptian Goddess Maat. TRUTH ORDER JUSTICE BALANCE OF THE UNIVERSE

  6. Police could substitute for the king as chief justice and were also a Priest of Maat. • Pendant of Maat

  7. THE JUDGE • Judged by a tribunal made up of scribes, priests, and high officials such as viziers.

  8. The Court You were presumed to be guilty and had to prove yourself innocent.

  9. The Evidence The Egyptians were very detailed in their record keeping making evidence easier to provide.

  10. The Confession • Egyptians needed a confession in order to convict a suspect.

  11. The Oracle Egyptians gave priests the power to judge people on their innocencebefore a statue of a god.

  12. The Punishment The Ancient Egyptians used common sense of what was right and wrong and used harsh punishments for breaking the law depending on the crime.

  13. The Crimes The worst crime was tomb robbing.
