World Trade Center Bombing - 1993 February 26, 1993New York City The terrorists drove the 1,500-pound urea-nitrate bomb into the basement area of the World Trade Center and then set the timer and left. The explosion rocked the World Trade Center killing six people and injuring over a thousand others The unite states:On March 4, 1994 a jury found Salameh, Ajaj, Abuhalima and Ayyad guilty of the World Trade Center bombing. They were all sentenced to 240 years in prison.
Oklahoma City Bombing April 19th, 1995Oklahoma City, Oklahoma On April 19th at 9:00 AM, home-grown terrorist Timothy McVeigh parked a Ryder truck outside the Alfred P. Murreh government building loaded with explosives. At 9:02 AM the truck exploded taking the lives of 168 innocent people. American response:Timothy McVeigh was convicted of the terrorist crime and sentenced to death which was carried out on June 11, 2001. Terry Nichols was convicted of manslaughter and of conspiring with Timothy McVeigh. He received a life sentence in prison for his actions in this horrific crime.
Khobar Towers Bombing June 25, 1996Dharan, Saudi Arabia the bomb went off before the building could be completely evacuated. In this terrorist attack 19 servicemen lost their lives with hundreds of others wounded. American response:The US has indicted 14 people in connection with the Khobar Towers bombing.
US Embassy Bombings A coordinated attack was made on two US embassies in the countries of Kenya and Tanzania. In the country of Tanzania, authorities believe that a bomb was planted in a refrigeration truck and then parked outside of the embassy. American response:The US in cooperation with the government of Tanzania has since broke ground on a new embassy. The US has also indicted Osama Bin Laden as the mastermind behind the embassy attacks and offered a five million dollar reward for his arrest and conviction.
U.S.S. Cole October 12, 2000Port of Aden, Yemen A small group of suicide bombers used a skiff to pull alongside the destroyer and detonate a bomb. The attack killed 17 sailors and wounded an additional 39 sailors. American Response:At this point the attack is still undergoing investigation. Officials believe there are similarities between this attack and the 1998 bombings of U.S. Embassies in Africa
TWIN TOWERS September 11, 2001New York City On the morning of September 11th, terrorists hijacked four commercial jet planes and attempted to fly them into several U.S. targets. One of the planes, American Airlines Flight 11, crashed into Tower One of the World Trade Center at 8:50 AM. United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into Tower Two at 9:04 AM. As the world watched Tower Two collapsed to the ground at about 10:00 AM.
