Who is Lee Kuan Yew? • Lee Kuan Yew was born on 16 September 1923 in Singapore at 92 Kampong Java Road in Singapore. He is the eldest son in his family. • He is hardworking and intelligent and did well in his studies.
Early Life • Lee Kuan Yew was just a student at Raffles College when the Japanese first attacked Singapore. • He witnessed many cruel acts committed by the Japanese
The Japanese Occupation made Lee Kuan Yew determined to free Singapore. • After the war, Lee went on to study law in England at the University of Cambridge in Britain. • He became convinced that the British had no right to rule Singapore.
Forming PAP • In 1954, Lee Kuan Yew and his friends formed the PAP. They launched the party at the Victoria Memorial Hall. • The Party was made up of people of different races
PAP won the 1959 election by obtaining 43 out of 51 seats in the government. • Lee Kuan Yew became the first prime minster of Singapore
Prime Minister • Lee Kuan Yew stepped down as Prime Minister in 1990. • He was Prime Minister of Singapore for 31 years. • He then served as Senior Minister form 1990 to 2004.
Minister Mentor • In 2004, Lee Kuan Yew assumed a new position of Minister Mentor. • He continues to contribute by giving advice to the government. • He also promotes Singapore as a well-governed country through lectures and speeches.
