Preparation for your Museum ExhibitPart Two: Evaluating your artefacts – what do you have and what do you need? Oral History Project Social Studies 10
Workshop Objectives Workshop #1(December) • To review the project timeline to identify timelines and stages for effective project planning • To understand the importance of advance planning for your museum exhibition • To gather ideas of what artefacts you could start looking for • To understand what makes for an effective museum display Workshop #2 (January) • To evaluate the strength of the artefacts you have, and identify what you still need to collect/make/find • To understand how to effectively display your research/ideas/artefacts • To consider how you will engage visitors to your museum booth, through key questions, interactive components, artefacts and multimedia
Your timeline…. • January 30/31 will arrive much sooner than you think…. You now have 3 weeks (3 school weeks and 2 weekends) until your presentation date!!
Evaluating your artefacts Think back to artefacts/displays you saw in the sample projects we looked at in December…. What makes for a strong artefact or collection of artefacts? How can we use them to engage the audience? What makes them attractive? In the table below, note down what you currently have obtained, what it’s purpose will be and what you still need to find: With a partner explain how you plan to use your artefacts. Partners should be giving feedback on the ideas presented. What works? What doesn’t? What is needed to improve your partner’s plan further?
Effective displays and engaging the audience Workshop discussion Use this time as a large group to share your ideas for engaging the audience, making your display interactive, using multimedia and presenting the questions and answers to your research questions.
Next steps • What ideas do you currently have for a display? • What artefacts do you still need to get? How are you going to obtain them? • What equipment do you need for your display? Where are you going to get it? • How are you going to take advantage of space, furniture and resources to maximize your presentation?
