  2. Focusing Questions • What are the components of the Grade 8 Exit Project? • How can we use the “Grade 8 Exit Project Instructional Guide” to guide our students through the Exit Project process?

Framing The Session • In this session we will: • Examine the three components to the Grade 8 Social Studies Exit Project. • Outline the subsequent seven sessions in which we explore how to integrate technology into the Grade 8 Social Studies Exit Project. • Create a sample project timeline using Microsoft Word.

  5. Teaching • An Exit Project is a culminating project in which students explore a topic in social studies in depth. • Students research the topic and prepare a written, oral, and graphic presentation.

  6. Guided Practice • 3 Components: • Written • Graphic • Oral • As we review each component, consider the various ways that technology can support each of these components.

  7. The Written Component • Technology Infusion: • Microsoft Word typed report. • PowerPoint slideshow notes.

  9. The Graphic Component • Teachers can guide students in their choice of a graphic component. • Technology Infusion: • PowerPoint • Digital documentary using Windows MovieMaker or iMovie • Tri-fold with printed images and typed writing

  11. Steps to Creating an Oral Presentation • Know your subject matter. • Develop a theme. • Prepare your script. • Rehearse. • Present. The oral component can take many shapes. It can be: - a poem - a song - a report

Getting Started • Now that we have looked at all the Exit Project rubrics, you will use the written and graphic components rubrics to assess a sample Exit Project: • - “Bankruptcy Reform: Past and Present” • (http://www.nyshistoryday.org/abrodheim) • (courtesy of NY State History Day Project) • You will also adapt rubrics to reflect the integration of technology.

  16. Work Time • Work with your partner, use the rubrics to assess the written and graphic components of the sample Exit Project: • - “Bankruptcy Reform: Past and Present” (http://www.nyshistoryday.org/abrodheim) • Consider how you might adapt the rubrics to reflect the infusion of technology in your classroom. • Record ideas for integrating technology into the rubrics.
