  2. Broadband Services • There is an increasing demand for broadband services in rural and remote communities worldwide. • Technology and cost remain important barriers to the delivery of such services. • Frequency bands that are not harmonized internationally are also barriers.

  3. Broadband Services • Internationally harmonized frequency bands would encourage the development of broadband products for use in rural and remote areas. • Harmonized standards development and equipment certification are key to reducing the cost barrier. • Harmonized standards that allow for hybrid fixed and mobile systems for seamless BWA coverage may help in the development of telecommunications systems in rural and remote communities.
