The Gladiators fought for their lives in the Colosseum. Their lives were decided by the crowd. They fought lions, tigers, and even other people.
Gladiator Information • There are three different types of Gladiators. • One type is the Bestiariigladiator. They specialized in fighting beasts. • Another is the Retiarii gladiator. These gladiators carried a trident, a dagger and a net. • The third kind is called the Dimachaerigladiator, this gladiator fought with a sword in each hand. • The Gladiators were trained in the LudusMagnus area of the Colosseum.
Colosseum Features • Seating for close to 50,000 spectators. • Underground tunnels to let emperors leave at any time. • 36 trap door for amazing special effects. • Nets around the stadium to protect spectators. • Special box for the Emperor to sit in. • Three different types of columns, Ionic, Doric, and Corinthian.
Interesting Facts • 42 different Emperors watched events in the Colosseum. • Over 700,000 people died in the Colosseum. • 5,000 animals were killed daily at the colosseum. • The Colosseum took over 10 years to build.
