  3. How it attacks and spreads • Enters the body through wounds • Does not spread from one person to another

  4. Most common victims to prey on • Anyone with an open wound • People without the tetanus vaccine • Newborns without a “passive” immune system if mom hasn’t had the vaccine • Self-piercings • Splinters • Self-tattooing • Drug users who share needles

  5. Were it hides out • Found in soil • Feces of domestic animals, farm animals and humans

  6. Most common injury done to victim • Spasm of jaw muscles • Stiff neck • Hard time swallowing • Stiffness in abdominal area • May cause sweating, higher blood pressure, rapid heart rate

  7. Number of Victims • 1out of 10 people die of tetanus • High death rate

  8. Most effective weapons against the germ • No cure • Supportive treatment • Best treatment is immunization
