The Life of Roosevelt • Franklin D. Roosevelt was born on January 30,1882 in a beautiful mansion in Hyde Park, New York. • On March 17,1905m Franklin married Ann Eleanor : the niece of Former president Theodore Roosevelt. • He was the thirty-two president of the United States • In 1913 he was appointed assistant secretary of the Navy. • He ran unsuccessfully for Vice President of the United States in 1920.
Education • At the age of nine, Roosevelt attended a public school only for six weeks. • He graduated from Groton Prep School in Groton, Massachusetts in 1900. • He then enrolled that same year at Harvard majoring in History. • In 1903 he graduated from Harvard.
Political Career • On January 1911,Roosevelt entered New York Senate and re-elected in 1913. • President Wilson appointed him as a assistant secretary of the navy in 1913. • In 1920, Franklin Roosevelt was Democratic nominee for Vice President. • Roosevelt became governor of New York in 1928
Polio • From the age of 39, Franklin Roosevelt suffered from Polio. He had extreme difficulty walking. He was a very proud man. • Still, however, Roosevelt continued his political activity by writing letters, issuing statements, and holding conferences in his home
The New Deal • The New Deal was one of Roosevelt’s most outstanding accomplishments. • The New Deal describes the program of Roosevelt from 1933-1939 of relief, recovery, and reform. • The New Deal set up shelters and soup kitchens to feed the millions of unemployed people.
Roosevelt Dies • Franklin died in Warm Springs, Georgia, on April 12,1945. • His last words were “I have a terrific headache.” • He was buried at Hyde Park.
