  4. Why did Jan Palach set himself alight in January 1969? • Why did Palach take such an extreme action? • Palach’s letter were supressed, but 3 copies were sent out to various people. • Read Palach’s own words – why does he say he took this action?

Why did the World go to War in August 1914? • Work in groups of 3 with a large piece of paper and some factor cards to complete the following: • Place the grey card in the top left of your paper • Now arrange the cards in order of importance, with the card most relevant nearest to the question. • Any cards over which there is disagreement should be placed on the edge of the paper. • Cards that are not relevant to the question should be placed off the paper.
