  1. Introduction to Filmmaking

  2. Purposes of films • To inform • To entertain • To provoke thought and/or action • Any film can do all three, but should definitely always entertain or engage the audience in some way

  3. The main purpose of film is to tell a story

  4. Everyone has a story to tell and every story matters

  5. 3 basic film types • Feature film • Documentary • Short film

  6. No matter the film type you are telling a story • Even wedding videos or commercials are telling a story • So an engaging, entertaining story is most important or no one will want to watch

  7. Course format • Two days of class • Projects assigned each week • Solo projects • Group projects • One day of editing lab per week

  8. This week we will have three classes • I will provide the knowledge, it’s your job to do the work • If you miss class or fail to complete projects you only hurt yourself • Time limits on projects. • Final project screenings
