  5. Ranger Hall • Traditional residence hall housing • Houses 408 students • 2-person rooms • Home to most first year students • Office of Residence Life on the parking level

  6. University Apartments • Apartment style housing • Interior Renovated in Summer 2012, exterior in Summer 2013. • Houses 370 upper division students • 7 Residents per Apartment, 4 bedroom, two bath, kitchen, living room

  7. Pike River Suites • Suite-style housing • Houses 220 students • 1- and 2-person rooms in 2- and 3-room suites • Houses both first year and upper division students

What’s Included • Rooms are carpeted and furnished • Mattresses, desks, chairs, dressers, double-wide closet, and twin beds (can be bunked or lofted) • Air conditioning • Cable TV • Internet connection • Wall connection – CAT 6 cable (Ranger and Pike) • Wireless (Apartments, Pike, public areas in Ranger) • One phone per wing/apartment/suite • TV lounges and kitchenettes (Ranger, Pike) • Information desks, Computer labs, kitchen access, fitness room, laundry rooms, and quiet study lounges

Security and Safety • Hall and campus staff that are on call to respond to numerous situations • Each hall is staffed with full time live-in staff • University Police Officer • Campus Alert System • Emergency Call Boxes • Keyed and card access • Annunciator systems which allow us to communicate with our students in crisis situations in Ranger and Pike.

  10. Helping Your Student Transition • Expect Ups and Downs. • Get them involved. • Make sure they get some sleep. • Know your resources. Help identify support. • Understand there will be roommate conflicts. • Empower them.

  11. Renters Insurance • Check your homeowners policy • Does it cover your student at school? • Very affordable • Residence Life is not liable for damages or stolen items

Living-Learning Communities (LLCs) • First Year Experience • Located in Ranger Hall • Assists first year students with their transition to UW-Parkside • Global Village LLC • Located in Pike River Suites • Brings together international and domestic students to live and learn in a joint environment • Exploration LLC • Located in Ranger Hall • For students who are undeclared and/or undecided about a major and/or interested in major and career exploration • Wisconsin Covenant Scholars • Located in Ranger Hall • For students who are coming in as Wisconsin Covenant Scholars from High School • Transfer Year Experience • Located in University Apts. • Assists transfer students with their transition to UW-Parkside

What are the benefits of living on campus? • Academics– Students that live on campus usually perform better academically • Cost Effective – One Price • Convenience –Cooking, Cleaning, and Mediation. • Location – Your student can walk to class, no snow days! • Leadership Opportunities – RA Positions, RHA, NRHH, Programming

  14. Housing Information • The Housing Contract is for the entire academic year • Students wishing to be released from their contract early must file an appeal. • First and Second year students are required to live on campus per UW-System policy • Exceptions include: over age of 21, married or has children, is a veteran, has completed 54 or more credit hours, has lived in a University residence hall for two or more years, commutes from parents home within 40 miles of campus. • Residence Life makes every effort to meet student roommate and living requests • Housing assignments are emailed in mid-July.

  15. Move In Day! Prior to Move-In Day, residents are encouraged to contact their roommates to discuss what personal items are being brought to campus. Move-In Checklist • Bring your RangerCard card or some other form of picture identification • As you enter the campus, go directly to your assigned residence hall. Be prepared to walk a short distance, as you may not be able to park next to your building. • Before unloading your vehicle, pick up your room key in your Residence Hall check-in area. • Prior to moving your personal items into your room, you are highly encouraged to complete your Room Condition Report (RCR), which you will receive with your keys. Please return your RCR to your Resident Advisor (RA) or the Office of Residence Life within 24 hours of moving in to your room. • Move your unloaded vehicle as soon as possible to make space for others. • If you do not have a housing assignment, go directly to the Office of Residence Life in Ranger Hall 036.

  16. Move In Day! • Move-In Day for New Students—Sunday, September 1, 2013, 10:00 AM to 4 PM • Ranger Welcome for New Students—Monday, September 2 and Tuesday, September 3, 2013 • Move-In Day for Returning Students—Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 12 Noon to 4 PM

  17. What to bring? • Television  • Microwave • Refrigerator • Cell phone • I-Pod/MP3 player/Stereo with a docking station • Computer (preferably a laptop), with peripherals • Three prong extension cords, Power strip/surge protector • Alarm Clock (maybe two) • Laundry Supplies • Eating utensils • Bedding – Beds are EXTRA LONG • Fan Bath towels, soap, robe, etc. • Toiletries • First aid kit, including Band-aids, antibiotic ointment, ace bandage, etc. • Tylenol or other pain reliever • Umbrella • Pictures of family, friends and/or pets • Your insurance card/health insurance information • Positive attitude

  18. What NOT bring? • Pets (Fish are okay) • Full size refrigerator (rooms are only so big) • Fire arms – even if you hunt or shoot for sport • Check out our handbook online.

  19. Dining Options • There are 4 Dining Options for Students to Choose • On campus students can’t sign up for the commuter meal plans. • Dining plan can be used at several campus locations • BrickstoneGrill & Eatery, Encore Café, The Den, Molinaro Joe’s, Wyllie Market and Subway • At Brickstone Grill & Eatery • One receives a 50% discount from regular prices. Dining dollars may be used at other campus dining locations at full price
