Adverse Weather, Extended Holiday Closing, and other Leave Policies
Adverse Weather • Employees may take Adverse Weather Leave during periods of inclement weather and then make-up time lost or designate another leave option. • Time cannot be made up in a week when hours worked equal or exceed 40 hours. • Time must be made up within one year • If you are out for Adverse Weather Leave the new Cascading Process will deduct any accrued Comp Time available. If no Comp Time is available, the leave taken will show as a negative balance in your Adverse Weather Leave bucket until it is made up. • Please review the WCU adverse weather policy for details
2012-2013 Holiday Schedule Be sure to plan accordingly for the Extended Holiday Closing. The campus is partially closed for the Christmas and Extended Holiday. On December 31, 2012, employees in leave earning status have the option of using vacation, FY 13 Special Leave, Bonus Leave, leave without pay or compensatory time off for this day. This will allow the University to close at the end of business on Friday, December 21, 2012, and remain closed until the opening of business on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.
2012-2013 Holiday Schedule Hourly employees and those on temporary staff appointments receive straight-time pay plus a premium of one-half straight-time pay for work on designated University holidays, but they are not given compensatory time off. Permanent and probationary, Exempt and Non-Exempt employees who are required to work on a designated holiday will be paid straight time plus holiday premium pay equal to one-half of their regular straight-time hourly rate for the hours worked on these holidays. In addition, they will be given compensatory time off, not to exceed 8 hours.
FY13 Special Leave • Leave may be used for any purpose for which regular vacation leave is used except leave cannot be donated as Voluntary Shared Leave. • Can use prior to earned Compensatory Time, Vacation Leave, Bonus Leave and Sick Leave. • Leave cannot be used to resolve negative leave balances or Adverse Weather Leave that was the result of leave that occurred prior to July 1, 2012. • If the FY13 Special Leave is not used between July 1, 2012 and June 30, 2013, it shall expire.
Year-End Roll of Leave Balances Full-time leave earning employees are allowed to retain a maximum of 240 hrs Vacation Leave to carry forward into the new calendar year. This maximum amount is pro-rated for part-time and employees working less than 12 months. Any Vacation hours over this maximum amount will be moved to your Sick Leave beginning balance for 2013. JANUARY 2013
Year-End Roll of Leave Balances • Any balance of FY13 Special Leave on December 31, 2012 will be retained by the employee and transferred in to the next calendar year. It will not be considered as part of the 240 hours of vacation leave that can be retained.
Year-End Roll of Leave Balances • All leave earning employees have been sent leave balances for review so that accurate balances are rolled into 2013. • Please notify Rhonda Rogers of any discrepancies between your records and the balance showing in MYCAT.
