In the EU there are 96 Mio. young people between 15 and 29 years. This is 19,4% of the whole population. This number is estimated to be reduced to 15,3% in the year 2050.
Young people and employment – before and during the crisis
The labour force participation rate decreased (globally from 54.7 to 50.8% between 1998 and 2008) • Mainly because the number of people in education was rising • Youth unemployment rates were decreasing until 2007 in the EU Until 2008 (Global employment trends for youth, ILO, August 2010)

Half of all young workers find themselves within low qualified or marginal employment. • 40% of all young workers have temporary contracts. • 25% of all young workers are employed part-time. • 1/3 of all young people between 15-24 years in the EU are neither in school, education nor in employment. • 1/3 of all young workers are students or apprentice.

Low educational skills • Weak socio-economical background • Inequality in terms of gender • No good possibilities for disabled youth • Labour market conditions often disadvantageous for entrants for the bad situation of young workers in Europe

For whom? The EZA Youth Platform addresses young employees. Organised by? A so-called core group has been established to help with practical matters. This core group: currently features ten people and has been established by EZA.
to make people (politicians, within EZA) aware of young workers’ problems • improvement of young workers’ working conditions • to give young people the possibility to exchange experiences, best practices, knowledge, etc. • to improve the role of young workers within the society according to the democracy; make young people aware, act and strengthen their motivation • to give young people a place to express themselves Our main goals:
Every two years, EZA will host a youth seminar which will provide a forum for discussions and an exchange of views about relevant issues and the latest developments.
