  1. TRANSPORTATION TUESDAY SAVE YOUR CHILD’S LIFE TODAY TEACH THEM HOW TO BE A SAFE PEDESTRIAN TAKE A WALK ON THE SAFE SIDE

  2. IT’S NEVER TOO EARLY TO LEARN 1-4 years : protect your child - never let the child near a road alone (even with another child). They cannot cope with traffic. When you go out, make sure they walk on the inside of the pavement - hold their hand. 5-6 years : teach the basics - when you are walking, talk about what you are doing and why. Start to teach : STOP - LOOK - LISTEN. Children this age still have no judgement skills. 7-9 years : understanding and practice - make sure they know the basics of road safety and watch as they practice crossing roads alone. Children learn by example - set a good example yourself. 10 - 15 years : independence - teach them how to judge speed and distance and how to find a safe gap to cross. Ensure they think for themselves and don’t blindly follow their friends across the road.

  3. WE ARE ALL PEDESTRIANS in the carpark going for lunch crossing the maintenance yard getting off the bus IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO LEARN

  4. ROAD SAFETY FOR GROWN UPS stay alert - don’t get so lost in conversation or thought that you don’t notice the traffic use your eyes and ears - if you are wearing headphones keep the volume low so you can hear the traffic look ALL ways, not just both ways - check behind and beside you for vehicles turning or coming out of side streets and alleys never assume the driver will stop - try to make eye contact remember there are blind spots never walk behind a vehicle that is reversing if there is no pavement, walk facing the traffic - make sure you see and be seen be visible at night - walk where the street lights help and wear bright clothes or carry a flash light we all know about drunk driving … alcohol and drugs can impair your judgement for walking too

  5. walk the talk When a 200lb person collides with a 2000lb moving vehicle, there is no doubt the person will come off worst
