Galileo Use in the Classroom
Objectives • PWBAT understand the reason for the implementation of Pre/Post Assessments school-wide. • PWBAT effectively utilize Galileo to run reports at the classroom level, to modify instruction and increase student achievement.
Pre and Post assessments Benefits • Provides preview of course coverage for students • can act as an "advance organizer," which may improve student learning • allows for early adjustment based on student interests and prior knowledge • allows for early identification of student strengths and weaknesses • improves ability to measure what has actually been learned in a course • provides a way to get students started as active thinkers during class-time • provides the instructor a good overview of class composition • provides data that may be used in tracking student success and other research • used to demonstrate student growth for teacher evaluations • comprehensive pre and post test helps a teacher review his or her vision for the course (immediate and in the future)
Getting Started • Logging In: • Go to ati-online.com • Click on Galileo K-12 option • Log in with your username and password • If you are a first time user, then “read and agree” to the terms (you may then change your password) • Settings – this window will open, check to make sure you are in 2011/2012 school year • Toolbar Options • Click on Reports • Choose Standards Mastery and scroll down to…. • Class Development Profile Grid
Class Developmental Profile Grid • Provides performance data for all students in the class regarding mastery of every performance objective for every student on a particular assessment. • Used to target individual/small group remediation by objectives • Whole class data regarding mastery level and potential need to re-teach • Report only for teacher/admin use Running the report • Select School • Select Class • Select Library • Select Test • Run Report – click on after choosing either PDF or CSV (Excel compatible format)
Individual Profile • Provides performance data by objective for the individual student. This is valuable to share with students and parents Running Report • Click on reports • Under Standards Mastery choose Individual Profile • Select school and class • Select the student or whole class for all • Choose the library • Double click on the test you wish to view data for • Run report *** Caution – Fame score may not be valid based on number of questions listed.
Class Test Scores Report • Provides data for one class at a time • Identifies number of questions correct and the percentage for each student in the class • Simply a fast picture of the level of mastery • Appropriate if creating an excel spreadsheet to show class growth over time. Often used to track cohort performance • Shows a class readiness and growth
Aggregate multi-test report • Provides data at the district, school, class and student levels. • Can compare/contrast performance with other schools • Can not be run until the majority of students scheduled to take the benchmark assessments have actually taken it • Only available to schools after corporate initiates
Test Monitoring Report • Specifically designed for monitoring students testing online; however, provides a colorful picture of overall performance by question/responses even if not given online Running Report • Click on Reports • Click on Monitoring • Choose Test Monitoring • Select Class, Library and Test The bottom of the report show the percentage of students who answered correctly. Also, you can click on the underlined item to view the test question. Can be used to determine need for re-teaching, whole class or individuals.
Intervention Alert • Useful in providing prescriptive activities for individual or small group remediation • Only report in Galileo that provides activities for remediation Running Report • Click on Reports • Click on Intervention Alert • Select the Class • Select the Library and Test • Click the Run Report button • Choose an Objective with weak mastery percentage and check in the box to the left of it • Scroll to the bottom and click on Assignments • You will see power point options which may be assigned to individuals, small groups or as a whole class activity
Benchmark Results Report • Provides data regarding numbers of students and their risk levels in addition to a FAME scale Running Report • Click on Dashboard • Choose Class • Click on Benchmark Results wording in blue and underlined • Select Class, Library, and Subject By clicking on “assignments “ you will be taken to a page that will list every power point available for use in remediation in the same order as the objectives on the previous page
Test Blueprint Report • This can be used to check the alignment to standards of a teacher created test • If you are tracking standards coverage to ensure coverage over time, this report will assist in that tracking
