  4. I AM THE PROMISE TO THE WORLD TO REDUCE BY HALF THE PROPORTION OF PEOPLE LIVING IN EXTREME POVERTY AND SUFFERING FROM HUNGER BY THE YEAR 2015.

  5. THE REALITY FOR TOO MANY About one billion of the world’s people live on less than $1 a day and go to bed hungry every night. Photo by http://www.enjeux-internationaux.org/Images/favela.jpg

  6. Almost three billion of our world’s 6.7 billion live on less than $2 a day and these numbers have been growing.

  7. Since I’ve begun speaking, one more person has died of starvation. I WANT A BETTER WORLD FOR THE WORLD’S POOR.

  8. I AM THE VOICE OF GOAL 2, a voice for education and achieving universal primary education for all.

  9. Universal primary education While there has been progress and eight out of ten children in developing countries begin primary school, only a third of these children actually complete their schooling with more girls dropping out than boys.

  10. Of those who never get to go to school, three of every five are girls. I WANT EVERY CHILD TO COMPLETE AT LEAST PRIMARY SCHOOL.

  11. I AM THE VOICE OF GOAL 3, A voice for improving conditions for women.

  12. Gender Equality The face of poverty has been, and continues to be, overwhelmingly female. And we know that such good changes come about when we educate and empower our women: • Death rates usually fall, • Birth rates decline and • Health and education prospects for the next generation improve.

  13. LET US STRIVE FOR MORE EQUALITY FOR OUR WOMEN AND OUR MEN

  14. I AM THE VOICE OF GOAL 4 A voice for those children who are no longer with us. Conditions were such that they never reached their fifth birthday.

  15. Child Mortality Why must parents fear the loss of their child?

  16. Child Survival : A Serious Issue An unacceptably large number of newborns and young children die unnecessarily. Teenage pregnancies, continuous physical labor, malnutrition, ill health and lack of rest put mother and baby at great risk.

  17. Child Mortality But change is very possible… We can decrease that death rate if we only try harder to do so

  18. I AM THE VOICE OF GOAL FIVE a voice for the health of mothers

  19. Every minute of every day a woman dies in pregnancy and childbirth Making pregnancy related complications among the greatest killers of young mothers in the developing world

  20. Efforts have been improving in this area, but we need to reduce the half million number of women who still die each year from this.

  21. I AM THE VOICE OF GOAL SIX A voice in combat with HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and other diseases that still claim too many lives.

  22. Disease reduction While there have been some commendable strides in reducing the number of victims, the fight needs to continue so our world can see more treatment, contribution and development than the funerals and sorrow that accompany the loss of their lives.

  23. I AM THE VOICE OF GOAL 7 The voice of the world’s environment and links to poverty reduction.

  24. The goal is ensuring environmental sustainability for all the world’s people with increased access to safe water and sanitation in developing countries.

  25. Slum eradication Slumdog Millionaire had its optimistic message but for those really living in such slums, we have a way to go for them to live lives with just their basic needs being met. Climate change We must persist in efforts to combat climate change [compare the changes above from 1968 to 2007] and make sure that ours as well as future generations enjoy a quality of life that’s fair and decent and equitable in the use of the world’s resources.   29. One of my voices speaks to official development assistance and what donors must do, at least in part, to make the first seven goals possible.

  30. Aid In caring for our world we all have a part to play in sharing the wealth whether through public or private channels to help those in most need. Photo by www.uwt.org

  31. 0.7% of every country’s Gross National Product is the goal for annual giving, directing this aid towards the world’s poorest.

  32. My second goal 8 voice speaks to trade seeking a global trading system that is *open*rule base*predictable and*non-discriminatory

  34. My third goal 8 voice is one for debt relief This has so negatively affected conditions in the poorer countries of the world.

  35. Forgiving that debt allows for those governments to have money for health and education and development, giving them a chance to improve conditions for their own people

  36. So let’s review, a voice for the Millennium Development Goals is a voice to 1 Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger 2 Improve Maternal Health 3 Achieve Universal Primary Education 4 Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other Diseases 5 Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women 6 Ensure Environmental Sustainability 7 Reduce Child Mortality 8 Develop a Global Partnership for Development
