Welcome • I hope everybody had a great summer!!! • I’m Mr. Mamula and I will be your language arts teacher. • These are the things you need to know for class.
What to Bring to Class? • Bring a pencil!!! • 3 ring binder • Bring paper and a notebook. • Bring your assignment book, and use your assignment book to keep track of assignments. • Red pen • Highlighter • Take home folder • Book to read independently • Bring a happy attitude and good work ethic.
Rules • BE HERE ON TIME!!! • Bring all materials to class! • No gum chewing. • Be respectful to others and the classroom. (No hitting, yelling, horseplay, etc.) • The first five minutes and last five minutes of class are reserved for you to use the restroom and go to your locker. Ask during those times!!! • Sign out books that you borrow from the back of the room. They are not mine, so please take good care of them.
Rules • No Cell Phones, Ipods, PSPs, DSs, or other gaming device are allowed in the classroom. • Please do not talk while I am talking or other students are talking. I will give every student a chance to share their thoughts.
Restroom Policy &Locker Policy • You must have my permission to use the restroom or go to your locker. Ask during the first 5 minutes or last 5. • If you ask during any other time I will mark that on a checklist. • You get 4 checks for each nine weeks to use during class. (You do not have to use a check if you ask at the beginning or end of class) • If you use all four checks you have to stay in for recess to make up the time you missed during class.
Homework Policy • Homework assignments are either taken for an effort grade or an actual point grade. • Failure to complete effort grade assignments results in a check. 4 missed homework checks results in a call home. • Checks go back to zero after each 9 weeks. • Late homework for points can be turned in at anytime during the nine weeks, but the best grade you can get on it is a 75% C. • Not all assignments are allowed to be redone. I will let you know which assignments you can redo for a better grade. • Extra copies of homework can found in the back of the room. If you lose an assignment or are absent, it is your job to get the work. • Points will be taken off homework assignments for the following reasons: • No name • Assignment is completed in crayon or marker • Assignment is not completed on proper paper
Consequences/Punishment • Recess detention. (minor offense) • Saturday detention. (major offense) • Call home and meeting with principal. (Severe offense or repeat offenses)
Recess Detention • Your name will be on the board until you serve your detention. • You serve the detention in my room when I am there. (It does not count if you sit on the bleachers.) • You need to bring something to work on, or else I will provide you with something. • Depending on the offense, you may have a writing assignment
