Advertising Young children are vulnerable to the influence of commercial advertising.
What Are Children Watching? • A typical American child will be exposed to 12,000 violent acts on television a year. • Children’s TV programming alone contains about 20 violent acts an hour.
PBS Ready to Learn Encourages adults to: • Watch television with children. • Limit the amount of television children watch. • Be more selective in their choices of television programming for children. • Seek out books and activities to reinforce the educational information provided in PBS programs.
Dragon Tales (ages 2-7) encourages children to use math and problem solving to develop math literacy in an exciting format
Between the Lions (ages 4-7) based on a comprehensive research literacy curriculum, has the mission to help young children to read.
Arthur (ages 4-7) helps prepare children for school by modeling positive behavior, promoting thinking and problem solving, and motivating reading and writing
Caillou (2-6) chronicles the challenges in a four-year old’s life and encourages youngsters to ask questions and explore the world around them.
Clifford the Big Red Dog (ages 3-7) uses age appropriate story-telling to strengthen social skills and address challenges. It is based on 10 big ideas that reinforces character traits.
