  2. What was happening in 1916? • The Professional Golfers Association of America (PGA) is founded • Weeghman Park (a.k.a. Wrigley Field) in Chicago opens • Boys Scouts of America forms • US Department of Interior forms National Park Service • San Diego Zoo founded • Kirk Douglas was born (and is still alive!) AND THIRD DISTRICT PTA WAS CHARTERED!

  4. Third District PTA history • Prior to 1916, Third District served only 3 associations in Glenn County • Third District re-organized October 23, 1916 • CA PTA revised application to 11 counties! Butte, El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Yolo, Colusa, Glenn, Nevada, Sierra, Sutter and Yuba. Then added 5more! Shasta, Siskiyou, Solano, Tehama and Trinity. • Third District’s 16 county area meant that 1/3 of the State of California’s associations overseen by Third District PTA! 1/3

Third District PTA history (con’t) • 1923: Divided at “The North’s” request to just El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, Solano and Yolo counties • 1927: Changed to just El Dorado, Nevada, Placer and Sacramento counties • 1948: Rio Vista, Solano County moved to Third District at 18th District’s request • 1953: Yolo county returned. Now included El Dorado, Nevada, Placer , Sacramento, Rio Vista-Solano County and Yolo counties • 1979: At 19th District’s request, Sutter, Yuba and Colusa counties returned

  6. Third District Historical Statistics • In 1916: • 621 total members • 27 associations (PTAs) • 1 council • In 2018: • Over 17,391 total members as of February, 2018 • 160 associations (PTAs) • 2 councils (soon to be 4!)

  7. Area Served By Third District PTA today • Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo & Yuba counties • Total 9,650 square miles • 128 driving miles between northernmost and southernmost cities • 140 driving miles between westernmost and easternmost cities

Our School Districts • 14 school districts in Sacramento County • 16 school districts in Placer County • 5 school districts in Yolo County • 14 school districts in Sutter County • 5 school districts in Colusa County • 5 school districts in Yuba County • 9 school districts in Nevada County TOTAL 68 SCHOOL DISTRICTS!
