  1. Medical Staff DEA • The system has changed, DEA’s do not need to come to the Medical Director’s office for exemption! • Clinicians are expected to renew and apply for a DEA online at http:www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/ • Is UWMC your primary place of practice? Where are you active medical staff?

DEA 101: Using the Website • Log on to website: http:www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov • Select online forms and applications on the left side column • Click on new and renewal registration applications • Select Registration Online Application System • Once the initial information is filled out, the exemption screen will occur.

  3. Using the Website continued. . . . • For the exemption portion list your primary place of practice, the Medical Director will be the Certifying officer, and the address of the institution. If UWMC is your primary place of practice enter the tax id number for UWMC ONLY 91-6001537. • If your primary place of practice is not Harborview or UWMC please contact your appropriate institution for their process.

  4. How will I be notified regarding renewal? • Medical Staff receive two reminders that his/her DEA is up for renewal • OMSA: sends a reminder notice 30 – 45 days prior to DEA expiration • DEA Head Quarters: sends a reminder notice 2 months prior to DEA expiration

  5. Resident/Fellows DEA • Residents and Fellows are eligible to apply for a DEA. • The institution’s DEA registration number or a DEA that is exempted from payment by the Medical Director CANNOT be used for any other purpose than for the care of patients within the scope of your residency or fellowship program. • Applications for the three year registration with the DEA are available in the GME office, C212, Box 356350. • Questions??
