  3. About This Class • Transition to AlgebraWe will review skills from Pre-Algebra and learn new skills to prepare you for Algebra I. • Algebra IWe will expand the skills you know & learn new skills in order to prepare you for the state test as well as future classes.

  4. About This Class • It is imperative that you come to class ready to learn and work every day! • I expect the best from you every day for the entire class time. • We are here to learn which means we must work hard. So expect it!

  8. Classroom Guidelines • Treat each and every person in the room with dignity and respect. Dignity – worthy of honor or respect Respect – deep admiration

  9. Classroom Guidelines • Be in your (assigned)seat and working on your Do Now(bell work)when the tardy bell rings.

  10. Classroom Guidelines • Bring allmaterials to class everyday and take them with you when you leave. Required daily materials: Folder, Paper, Pencil/Eraser

  11. Classroom Guidelines • Follow all directions the first time they are given.

  12. Classroom Guidelines • Follow all guidelines and rules set forth by the DeSoto County School District as written in the handbook. • Cell Phones (pg7) • Attendance/Tardies (pg5-6) • Dress Code (pg 12-13) • Food & Drinks (pg 7)

  13. Classroom Guidelines • This area is a NO WHINING ZONE. Everyone is responsible for his/her own actions and is expected to work. No one wants to hear whining or excuses daily.

Classroom Consequences Severe Clause For insubordinate behaviors such as electronics, profane language, fighting, or other occurrences decided upon by the teacher, the lesser consequences may be overlooked and the student may be sent directly to the Administration with a disciplinary referral.

  20. Classroom Procedures • Classroom Conduct • If I am talking to the class, then I expect your undivided attention. • If you would like to speak or need my attention, raise your hand and wait to be recognized. This shows respect.

  21. Classroom Procedures • Restroom • You need to use the restroom before or after class. • If you MUST go during class, • Raise your hand & wait to be recognized. • Must have a hall pass to leave the room. • You should be back in your seat in 5 minutes. • Do not disrupt others.

  22. Classroom Procedures • Entering the Classroom • Enter the room quietly. • Check the front board for information. • Take your assigned seat. • Get out all materials needed for class. • Get to work!

Classroom Procedures • Tardiness • If you are not in the classroom when the tardy bell rings, then you MUST come to class with an admit slip (tardy) from the office or a note signed by a teacher. • When you come to class, hand me your tardy slip. Quietly take your seat and begin working. • Tardiness should not be a reoccurring issue.

  24. Classroom Procedures • Answering the Door • Whomever is sitting closest to the door is responsible for answering the door. (Exception: when testing) • The class does not talk to or acknowledge the person at the door. • The guest will address the teacher. The guest will then address the student(s).

  25. Classroom Procedures • Notebook • You are expected to have an organized folder for this class. • You should keep all assignments neatly in your folder until you turn them in.

  26. Classroom Procedures • Do Now • “Bell Work”This assignment is to be completed at the beginning of class. Instructions will be on side board and/or projector.

  27. Classroom Procedures • Homework • I will assign homework most every night. So expect it! • I will check homework the next day. It should be finished before class. • It should be completed with all work shown. • Homework gives you more practice, allows you to see what you understand, and prepares you for class. • If you do not have your homework, you will not be able to use a calculator in class that day.

  28. Classroom Procedures • Quizzes/Tests • You will have a quiz and/or test each week. • Tests will be announced in advance. • Quizzes may or may not be announced in advance. • It is your job to be prepared for class!

  30. Classroom Procedures • Turning in Your Work • Make sure your work is properly labeled. • Place your work in the class tray. • One person per row/group is to collect and turn in all work. • Pass papers across aisles.

  31. Classroom Procedures • Don’t have your work to turn in?! • Fill out a pink slip & turn it in to tray.The pink slips are on the table. • You MUST fill out a pink slip if you do not have your assignments.

  32. Classroom Procedures • Make-Up Work • All make-up work will be placed in your class “Were You Absent?” tray on the shelves. • It is YOUR responsibility to pick up and turn in all work to the teacher. • Work will NOT be accepted after one week.

  34. Classroom Procedures • Quieting the Classroom • When the teacher raises her hand, it is a signal for you to…- raise your hand- be quiet/still- pay attention

  35. Classroom Procedures • Calculators • Calculators are a privilege. • You will be responsible for your assigned calculator. You must take care of it. • You must return a signed calculator form in order to use the class set. • The calculator counter will be responsible for making sure all calculators are neatly & orderly returned before dismissal.

  36. Classroom Procedures • Dismissal • The bell does not dismiss you from class; it is simply a reminder to the teacher to stop teaching. • The teacher will dismiss the class once all materials are properly put away and the class is calm.

  37. Classroom Procedures • Substitute • In the event that I am absent, I expect the BEST behavior from all students. • On my desk, there is a sub folder in the bottom tray. • Please help the substitute. • I want good reports on how great our school and students are!

  38. Classroom Procedures • A few more things… • Remember respect. Use sir or ma’am, especially when talking to adults. • Answer questions in complete sentences. Research shows that this single task improves grades & test scores.

Classroom Procedures • Group Work • Treat everyone with dignity and respect. • All members of the group are to actively participate in the task. • Discussion is encouraged, but remember to keep voices low. • You are responsible for your own job and the results of your group. • If you have a question, ask your group members.
