Student Engagement Resources Honduras- Language Key Spanish Words and Phrases • Key Spanish Words & Phrases • Some things to keep in mind: • Generally, pronounce every letter that you see in each word • An “h” before any vowel is generally silent (especially at the beginning of a word) • A double “l” (ll) is usually pronounced like a “y” in English • An “ñ” is pronounced like a “-ny-” in English (ex: niño sounds like neen-yo) • A “ge-“ combination often sounds like an “he-“ combination in English *Bold syllables denote emphasis/accent on that syllable.
