Turnover of energy and matter by fish – a general model with application to Salmon Anders Stigebrandt Fisken & Havet, No. 5, 1999 (First published in Swedish 1986)
A quite general fish model is presented. Given feeding rate, feed properties and temperature, the fish model computes the emission of particulate organic matter from the net pens. It also computes the emissions of dissolved substances and oxygen consumption due to respiration. The state variable of the mathematical fish model is the weight of the fish. Feed composition, the rate of feed supply and ambient water temperature are important external variables in the model. The fish model was originally developed from a quite general fish model. However, to handle the fluxes of nutrients and protein it was realized that all organic matter must be explicitly partitioned into its content of fats, proteins and carbohydrates (Stigebrandt, 1986, 1999).
