  2. About Me • Purdue University Graduate • Student Taught at Zionsville Community High School • Both Classroom and Tutoring Experience • Second Year at Creekside Middle School

  3. About Algebra 1 • Algebra = Optional High School-Credited Course*Only under extreme circumstances are Test Retakes allowed* • Credit based upon the E.C.A. (End of Course Assessment) • Takes place in Spring 2014 • Credit requires a score of Pass or Pass +

  4. Grading • Tests and Quizzes: 90% Homework: 10% • Homework graded by:1) Completion 2) Check/Plus/Minus3) Exit Tickets 4) Homework Quiz • If at any point “CLO” comes up on assessment, it is only for teacher reference • Semester Grade: • 40%Quarter 1 40% Quarter 2 20% Final Exam (different than ECA)

  5. Class Materials • 3 –Ring Binder (Dividers, Workbook, Paper, Notes) • Calculator • Textbook • Graph Paper • Pencil(s) • Supplies necessary for most (if not all) in-class activities will be provided

Mathematical Practices • Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them • Reason abstractly and quantitatively • Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others • Model with mathematics • Use appropriate tools strategically • Attend to precision • Look for and make use of structure • Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning

  7. Discovering Algebra • Focus on activities and group investigation • Constructivism rather than “sponge” learning
