  6. Math Center Reading Groups Students will have individual leveled assignments to complete. They will have the opportunity to work on reinforcing skills, or complete enrichment activities. Students may choose something from the math center when their work is complete. Enrichment Activity Center

  8. Fishing for Compliments The class catches cheer fish for…. • working hard • completing homework • good listening • cooperation • great discussions • other Spell the word of the month. The class will earn special rewards.

  9. Each of you will be allowed to share some family photos, individual awards, and special collections. You will also be allowed to care for our class pet. The Star Camper can ask family members to join us for their special presentation. You may even invite your family pet. Star Camper

  10. Book It Reading Club Earn A.R. points for reading books. Read Three Library books a month fill out the Book It Form and earn a personal pan pizza. Earn 25 A.R. Points or do 5 Months of Book It and you may participate in the end of the year Pizza Party!

  11. Emergency Exit Board This is used when a student leaves the classroom and the teacher is reading with other students. This reminds the teacher that a student is outside of the classroom. Only one girl and one boy may use this at a time for emergency restroom break reasons.

  12. Honesty Honesty Perfect Attendance A.R. Reading Character Counts! Math Award Students will earn tags for displaying the behavior trait of the month! Spell the word to learn a new class cheer.

  16. Second Grade Reading Goals • It is important for us to work on improving word recognition, comprehension, and fluency. • I will read daily with each student. • Grade will consist of Weekly A.R. Quiz Results, Written Comprehension Worksheet and Weekly Skills Test • Follow up… • Homework practice will be sent home 3 or 4 nights a week. Students will have a bookmark that requires a parent or guardian signature to confirm that the assignment was completed. • Please ask your child questions about what they read. (Who are the characters? What is the problem? How is the problem solved? What is the setting? What are some of the important details?)

(Earn Apple Dippers or Apple Pie) Tree House Math Easy Addition 100 facts Raccoon Hard Add 100 facts ( earn a mini blizzard) Deer Memorize Subtraction 100 facts (earn lunch of your choice)Bear Computer Math Facts (earn a certificate, star ,tag and eat lunch with Mrs. Taylor) • Introduces students to a variety of math concepts on a daily basis. • Follow up activities will be sent home for practice.

What is Rti?Response to Intervention • This program is designed to assess students’ progress and provide help in specific areas. • The program uses classroom performance, Aims Web data, teacher and parent referrals for placement. • It is an excellent way to monitor your child’s progress and chart their reading growth.

  20. Camp Rules Follow basic classroom procedures. Independently complete assigned work . Safety inside/outside of the classroom Helpful Fishing for Great Behavior!

  21. Go For Good Behavior A fish shaped clip will be used as a marker. W Warning 5 minutes of Time-out to discuss and correct behavior. 15 min. Time-out to discuss and correct behavior (The fish will be sent home for a parent signature)

  22. Individual Rewards • Star Cards- A punched star card earns rewards. (treasure box or a coupon) • Math Awards – Apple dippers,blizzard, lunch of your choice • A.R. Rewards- pencil, pizza party, read to a class, new book • Spelling- A+ on test earn time at Science, Math, Computer or Reading Centers. • Homework- Completed homework earns a punch.

  23. Enjoy class rewards popcorn & movie • Popcorn and Movie • Popsicles and Free Time • Eat in the Classroom and Movie. • Special Day (Class votes on a Theme) extra recess

  24. South School Procedures and Policies • School begins at 8:00 and dismisses at 2:50. It’s very important to arrive on time. • Lunch Baggies will be used to collect lunch and milk money. You will receive weekly updates on your child’s account balance. • Students will be allowed to bring snacks from the approved snack list and we will have morning milk (Water bottles may be brought to school and stored in student’s cubby.)

  25. RED Folders will be used to carry papers to and from school. Please check folders each night. (Friday’s newsletter will contain a sample schedule for the next week and a spelling list.) • Class Parties will be planned by room parent volunteers and will follow the South School guidelines. I will use the parent volunteer sign up sheet to assign a parent chairman and co-chairman to the party planning. (Christmas and End –of- the-Year Party)

  26. RED Apple Reports will be administered by the principal for recess, bus, bullying, or other issues that violate school policies. • Second grade students will be loading and unloading buses at the East entrance (second grade hallway). • Parents may pick up students in the gym, at the South or North door entrances. Please make certain that your child has a note stating where you will be.

  28. Let’s get started ! Where should you keep your supplies? Desk- Keep folders, reading book, reading practice book, white supplies basket, science or social studies book White Basket- keep glue, scissors, crayons, eraser, sharpened pencils Black Basket- for extra pencils and erasers Cubby- 3 ring binder, math book, writer’s journal, writing folder, science or social studies book Hook- backpack and jacket A.R. Books- store in basket under cubby

  29. What should I do when I get into the classroom? • Remove your home folder from your backpack. Make sure that notes and completed homework is in your folder. • 2. Turn in your home folder to the home folder bucket. • 3. Make sure that you have your supplies ready. You need 2 sharp pencils each day. • 4. Begin your morning seat work. • 5. Move your lunch and homework tag on the Starboard.

  30. Morning Routine • Begin morning seat work. • Attendance will be taken. • Line Leader will lead the class in the Pledge of Allegiance. • Class will begin.

  31. Remember to follow these classroom procedures.. • Raise your hand quietly and wait for the teacher to call on you. • Be a good listener. Do not interrupt the teacher or your classmates when they are talking. • Stay seated unless you have permission to move about the classroom. • Ask for permission to sharpen your pencil. • Do not disturb your neighbor.

  32. Wrap Up and Review • At the end of the day….. • Pack folders and backpacks with homework and graded papers. • Put all supplies away. • Pick up scraps around your desk. • Wait to be lined up. • Stand in line quietly
