President Bush visits America IIMarch 8, 2002 President Bush called America II “the best of the best” during his visit to the distributor’s 156,000-square foot warehouse in St. Petersburg, Florida. Post 9/11, America II: • Conducted no layoffs or cutbacks, continuing to provide stable employment for over 500 employees worldwide • Pulled permits, began construction on a new 80,000-square foot warehousing facility “I am doubly impressed, having talked to Mike [Galinski, America II CEO] and the people who work here, about the incredible culture that exists in this fine company -- a culture that recognizes the worth of the people who work for the company.” - President George W. Executive BiosAndy Groom, Managing Director, America II Europe With more than 25 years of experience in the electronics industry, Andy Groom's career covers sales, sales management, and product management with a specialization in semiconductors. In 1982, Andy accepted an invitation to establish the third company of the Access Group, a high-tech design distributor. In the late 80s, the Access Group gained visibility as the second largest semiconductor group in the UK and the target of Avnet's first European acquisition in 1991. Within Avnet UK, Groom filled several roles, including Marketing Director and General Manager, overseeing all of Avnet UK's semiconductor and passive operations. As Managing Director of America II Europe, Groom works to bring the benefits of America II's independent distribution model to the European electronics community.
Executive BiosGill Tory, European Sales Director, America II Europe Gill Tory began her career in the electronics industry as a distribution sales representative for National Semiconductor Corp. After her promotion and tenure as Sales Office Manager, Tory accepted the position of Distribution Field Sales Engineer. In the field, Tory looked after National's distributor and customer base, creating new sales opportunities and introducing products throughout the UK. After 10 years with National, Tory joined Avnet UK as product marketing manager for AMD and National. Later, as Avnet UK's Customer Service Manager, Tory guided the company to gaining recognition as one of the best service organizations in the industry. When Avnet UK united its inside sales and customer service forces, Tory was promoted to Internal Sales Manager, placing all sales and service activities, as well as $110 million in semiconductors and passives, under her direction. Now with America II Europe, Tory assumes responsibility for building and maintaining the business through opening accounts and establishing a quality- and service-minded sales organization. In 2003, she was promoted from Sales Director of the UK office to European Sales Director, reflecting America II’s growing global commitment.
Executive BiosMartin Kingsbury, Director of Strategic Sales Martin Kingsbury joined America II Europe after a four-year stint with Arrow Electronics where he served as Semiconductor Marketing Director before accepting a promotion to Sales Director with Arrow Components in April 2001. Kingsbury's prior experience includes serving as a Sales Director and Marketing Director for Semiconductors at Avnet and managing AMD and National Semiconductor as a Line Manager with the Access Group. Kingsbury's sales experience is rooted in inside and regional sales management with the Access Group and early career activity as a Field Sales Engineer with ITT Electronic Services. As Director of Strategic Sales for America II Europe, Kingsbury develops relationships with key customers, endeavoring to increase the distributor's share among selected market sectors.
Executive BiosHans-Jörg Kuhrke, Managing Director, America II Europe GmbH After completing his schooling in commercial engineering (FH Niederrhein and TH Aachen), Hans-Jörg Kuhrke went to work for Rohm as a Product Manager of semiconductors and optoelectronics. Drawing on this experience, Mr. Kuhrke joined NEC as a Field Sales Engineer within Germany and Switzerland and was later promoted to Assistant Manager of Distribution for Germany. After contributing eight years to NEC, Mr. Kuhrke took over the semiconductor division of electronic component distributor Rutronik, where he focused on ST, Siemens, Microchip, and NEC. Most recently, Mr. Kuhrke served as General Manager of Sales and Marketing for electronics manufacturer Truly Semiconductors. Now with over 17 years of electronics industry experience, Mr. Kuhrke grows and manages America II Europe's central European operation.
Executive BiosJames F. Magee, Jr., General Manager and President, America II Electronics Jim Magee's involvement in the electronics industry began in 1978 with Avnet Inc., where he served as an Area Sales Manager. In 1988, he was promoted to General Manager and transferred to guide the company's Tampa operation. Building his management experience, Magee accepted the position of regional Sales Manager (Florida and Puerto Rico) for Philips Semiconductor in 1991. Two years later, he was recruited by Wyle Electronics to open the company's Tampa branch, where he built a team that generated $16 million in sales during its first year. In 1995, America II recruited Magee to run the company's now 350,000-square foot warehouse and sales floor. Since then, Magee has brought America II to new levels in quality and service by spearheading the movement toward ISO 9002 and ANSI/ESD S20.20 certification.
