  2. 2 Peter 1:5-8 “But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

  3. Three Loves of a Disciple • Loves the Lord… Matthew 22:37; 1 John 5:1 Expressed by worship & obedience.

  4. Matthew 22:37 Jesus said to him, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” The “Great” commandment of the Law

  5. 1 John 5:1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. Love for God includes love for His Son!

  6. Three Loves of a Disciple • Loves the Lord… Matthew 22:37; 1 John 5:1 Expressed by worship & obedience. • Loves the Brethren… John 13:34-35; 1 John 3:14 Expressed by benevolence & hospitality.

  7. John 13:34-35 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

  8. 1 John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death.

  10. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” As His Disciples, we should love the world (shown through a concern for their souls) just as He does.

  11. 1 Corinthians 9:19-22 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; 20 and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; 21 to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; 22 to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.”

  12. Conclusion “And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment.”
