  6. Reprieve: Postponement of legal judgment Executive Orders: Rules by the president that have the force of Law Pardon: Release from legal judgment Amnesty: Group pardon to people for an offense against the government.

  7. Chief Diplomat • Represents America to foreign countries. • Appoints Ambassadors • Signs Treaties • Creates U.S. Foreign policy The President with Afghan President Hamid Karzai

  8. President Bush meets with Saudi leader Prince Abdulla Executive Agreements: Pact between foreign heads of government. Binding just like a treaty but do not need Senatorial approval.

  12. Chief Legislator • Signs and Vetos Bills • Works with Congress to create laws. • Writes the budget that determines government spending. President Bush signs the “No Child Left Behind” Bill that effects education. President Bush vetoed 12 bills all in his 2nd Term

  14. Head of Party • Leader of Political Party • Helps others in his party to win office • Appoints party members to leadership positions Political Patronage Rewards for people who supported the president during an election President Bush hired all Republicans to serve on his White House staff.
