- CSD WHAT is our intended outcome today? • To tell our story of how the PEC and CSD • have developed the process of authorization • under the Amended Charter School Act. • This is our story and our experience.
- CSD WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? OUR VISION The New Mexico Charter Schools Division supports and advances vibrant and innovative public schools of choice which are models of educational excellence and which cultivate a passion for learning and respect for the teaching profession. We envision our work cultivating communities of passionate learners and teachers who inspire educational excellence for all.
- CSD WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? • The whole idea is to improve • authorization, increase accountability, • mold the process to fit the unique- • ness of schools AND decrease • the annual paper flow.
- CSD REMEMBER… • As a chartering authority… • You can design your own protocols • And you will need to work with your attorneys • to develop the documents you will use with • charters you authorize. • You can learn from us but this is not intended to • provide legal advice regarding how your • district complies with the Amended CS Act.

- CSD The Amended Charter School Act The PEC and Where are we? What has transpired?
- CSD • PEC approved a Contract and Performance • Frameworks after three months of public • input from its charters and the charter • school advisory committee. • The PEC has successfully negotiated • contracts with three renewing schools. • Two more negotiations are done and • awaiting final approval.
- CSD • Monitoring tools are being developed by • CSD for annual reporting and site visits to • schools under the PEC tools. • We are conducting ongoing training and • assessment of Performance Framework and • Contract implementation process.
- CSD • After the negotiating sessions • with four schools, • …what have we learned? • All four schools very different • Alignment was key • Increases clarity among all • Who are you? i.e. elevates mission • Everyone is at the table.
