  3. 2014-2015 Elections Nomination Committee (Stacy Johnson, Chair) has identified the following candidates for the 2014 – 2015 PTA Executive Board slate: • President – Alan Hendrix • Vice President – Derrik Anderson • Vice President – Melissa Zhiss • Secretary – Latonya Booker • Treasure – Beth Collins Himes

  4. School/Social Events – Alan Hendrix, Vice President • Held a variety of school and social events which were well attended and very successful in uplifting our school community and enhancing our school spirit: • Welcome Back Picnic • Turkey Trot • Spirit Nights • Father/Daughter Dance • Mother/Son Carnival • Boogie for Books • Planning: Multicultural Night, Field Day and 5th Grade Celebration

  5. Men of Irwin – Derrik Anderson, Chair • There was not a PTA or school activity that Men of Irwin did not support and in a big way • Launched Lunch with Dads (1st Friday of each month) • Reading with Dads • Provided carpool/bus lot duty assistance • Landscaping/Painting • Football Fellowship • Participated in pilot for “Be There Dads” program

  6. Hospitality – Venetia St. Vilus, Chair • Irwin Genies – organized/assigned 72 Genies who gave small tokens of appreciation to 67 teachers and staff • Staff Breakfasts – provided a monthly breakfast for teachers and staff with contributions across grade levels and various parents • Teacher and Staff Appreciation Days & Week – coordinated appreciation activities for teachers, support staff, administrative staff, custodial staff, and bus drivers

  7. Treasurer’s Update and Fundraising – Perrin Morse, Treasurer • Over $31,000 in Load Up Our Libraries donations • Wise Owl Fund Direct Donations - $14,808 (additional $4,884 in Matching Gifts) • Book Fair -$10,900 (in Scholastic dollars) • Cookie Dough Sales -$5700 • Box Tops - $1405 • School Store - $900 Please note, we are currently working to reconcile the actuals vs budget and will be prepared to provide a final report out during June PTA meeting.

  8. Communications – Beth Collins Himes, Secretary • Through collaboration with school leadership, we communicated to the school community with a weekly e-newsletter “The Irwin Inquirer”, a quarterly Newsletter “The Hoot”, as well as a presence on Facebook and Twitter. • PTA Website (www.irwinpta.org) included an up to date Google Calendar as well as a wide variety of relevant information about PTA events, fundraising, meeting minutes, updated budget, Load Up Our Libraries progress, etc. Work also began on creating a new website.

  9. Summer Stars – Leah Zanville, Vice President • Worked to develop Summer Math and Reading program that will be used a primary PTA fundraiser in future years • Program will be finalized during 2014-2015 school year and tentatively rolled out in Summer of 2015 • Encourages students to continue building reading and math skills throughout the summer while accepting pledges from friends and family related to goals that are met

  10. Advocacy – Monique Dedeaux, Chair • Attended Mecklenburg PTA Advocacy Dinner to gather information on efforts to increase teachers’ salaries and funding for schools • Communicated through articles to parents to encourage parents to vote in favor of bonds, to support have full time nurses in every school, to provide safety information on not texting and driving • Supported NCPTA program “Elected Officials Go To School” by working with Colette Forrest to have NC Congressman Joel Ford and Mayor Pro-Tem Michael Barnes visit IAC • Setup meeting with school leadership and Advocacy Chair for Mecklenburg PTA

  11. Other Committees • Various other committees work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our PTA operates effectively and according to NC PTA By Laws • Audit Committee – Alteka Jinwright, Chair • Membership Committee –Yolanda Gilliam, Chair • Grants – Melissa Zhiss, Chair
