March PTA Business • Approval of March Meeting Minutes • Review March 11- April 7 Budget Report • Spring Fling • Brought in approximately $15K • This is less than what was budgeted, but all other Fundraisers have exceeded expectations • Teacher Treats
Upcoming Trash to Treasure Art Night • students encouraged to create works of art out of recycled or reused objects • 4 craft and game stations • Donations of recyclable materials needed especially mini water bottles, toilet paper tubes, magazines and newspapers • Also needed: donations of used tires, potting soil, tarps, outdoor paint • Volunteers also needed to prep, clean up and work stations
Upcoming Month of the Military Child • Military families encouraged to send in photos • Military families encouraged to have lunch with their children Wed-Friday • School is encouraged to wear purple on Friday • All families asked to send in photos of any family or friends who served
Appreciation Weeks Front Office Staff • Week after Spring Break • Families encouraged to thank staff in their own ways • PTA will treat staff to lunch • PTA will cover front office while staff is at lunch
Appreciation Weeks Teacher Appreciation • Monday- ice cream social after school • Tuesday- snacks • Wednesday- Lunch provided by parents • Letter campaign by students- select letters read on morning news • Room Parents will organize class efforts • Music in mornings • Parent Coverage for Recess times • Teacher Raffles • Carwash • business donations • services or meals provided by parents
Board of Supervisors What parents can and should do: • “Like” links on Full Fund Fairfax FB site • Attend BOS meeting Thursday, April 10, wearing blue on April dates OR • call BOS members to voice your concerns • Encourage others to do the same on FB, twitter, email, etc.
BOS What cuts to the county budget mean for SLES: • Increased class sizes • Reduced staff (up to 5 people may have to be let go) • Cuts to programs • No additional funding for any projects- including technology, playground upkeep
Other Happenings Field Day • Date changed to Thursday, May 8 • Volunteers needed for prep and for day-of • Day broken down into 2 field days to ease crowding 2014-2015 PTA Board Slate announced by April 26 • candidates have been found by search committee for all positions • self-nominations still being fielded until April 25 • job descriptions are available on website
May May 6 • Kindergarten Orientation 5-6pm • PTA meeting moved to 6pm in café • New Bylaws approved with 2 new Board Positions (posted by Spring Break) • All Board Positions voted on • Dr. Marshall to discuss Responsive Classroom Planning meeting Thursday, May 15 • All chairs, interested volunteers and parents and teachers welcomed to attend, details to be sent out in May • We will discuss what we want the PTA calendar to look like next year, take budget recommendations, and brainstorm events, programming, clubs, etc.
