  1. Explain the role of the United States in the rebuilding of Japan after WWII. Concepts: Analyze continuity and change in Southern and Eastern Asia

  2. Reasons for US Rebuilding Japan • Stop the spread of communism throughout Asia and promote democracy in the region by reforming Japan’s monarchy into a constitutional monarchy (democracy with an emperor with limited power). • Improve Japan’s economy in order to trade with Japan and sell US products to Japan’s market.

  3. JAPAN ATTACKS THE U.S.1941 Japan declares war on the U.S. by bombing the naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. America then declares war on Japan and enters WWII.
