Unit 2 Day 7 2004 Anatomy
“It is better to be hated for what you are than loved for what you are not.” • Andre’ Gide
Today’s Agenda • Warm-up (from Friday’s work) • Objective 6 notes • Tissue Notes (obj. 8) • Begin Tissue Lab
Objective 6 • DNA replication: Occurs in the S stage of the cell cycle. Replication results in an exact copy of each strand of DNA found within the cell.
Obj. 7 Types of Tissues • Examples on overhead
Objective 8 Epithelial Cell Traits • Cellularity --made of cells • Specialized contacts: • tight junctions • gap junctions • desmosomes • Avascular means no blood vessels
Objective 8 • 5. Basement Membrane • 6. Regeneration Basal lamina
Obj 9 &10 Connective tissue • Characteristics • Common origin-they come from mesenchyme • Varying degrees of vascularity (blood vessels) • Contain a lot of extracellular matrix.
Types • Embryonic----in embryo, precursor to all • Loose--wraps and cushions organs • Adipose--stores food reserve • Reticular--soft support, network of fibers • Dense--attaches muscle to bones.
Irregular--provides strength, withstands tension • Elastic--Provides durability with stretch • Hyaline--Support, cushions, reinforces, tough • Bone--forms bones • Blood--liquid matrix
Objective 11 • Smooth muscle-found in viscera • Cardiac muscle--found in heart • Skeletal muscle--movement
Objective 12: Nervous Tissue • Central nervous system’s tissues process information and are located in the brain and spine.
Objective 12: Nervous Tissue • Peripheral nervous system tissues relay information to and from the central nervous system. These tissues include the NERVES and GANGLION
