  1. > Geohazard Supersites > Jörn Hoffmann • 10.06.2013 The GEO Geohazard Supersites and Natural Laboratories InitiativeObjective, Status, Value Jörn Hoffmann German Aerospace Center (DLR) withcontributionsfrom: Michael Poland (USGS) andFreysteinnSigmundsson (Univ. ofIceland) Supersites Coordination Workshop Brussels, June 10, 2013

  2. > Geohazard Supersites > Jörn Hoffmann • 10.06.2013 Objective … to reduce the vulnerability to geological hazards by improving the scientific understanding of hazardous events through worldwide scientific collaboration. Support theestablishmentof Supersites and Natural Laboratories. Provide an electronic infrastructureallowingeasy accesstodata(space & in-situ) and a widerangeoftools, and a platformfor on-line collaboration. Develop a consolidated Supersites Strategic Plan. Supersites Strategic Plan (2011) GEO Work Plan 2012-2015, Task DI-01-C2

  3. > Geohazard Supersites > Jörn Hoffmann • 10.06.2013 Objective • Global network of geohazard natural laboratories, consisting of sets of natural laboratories for Europe/Africa, the Americas and Asia/Oceania. • Seamless access to seismic, GNSS and SAR data for each of the natural laboratories. • Comprehensive multi-sensor SAR data acquisition plans: background acquisitions using low-resolution SARs and targeted acquisitions of specific sites using high-resolution sensors, maximizing the synenergy with in-situ networks. • Community-provided software applications for scientific data analysis using a Cloud e-infrastructure. Task Sheet, GEO Task DI-01-C2
