“Save the Last Word for Me” • Looking back over what you read in Chapter 1, you are now going to focus on different quotations that stand out. • Break up into groups of 3-4!
Using Two Notecards • On one side, write a quotation from chapter 1 of TKAM that stood out to you or was interesting • On the other side, write why you chose this quotation
Share Out • Have each group member share the quotes and why they were chosen • Discuss as a group what patterns you notice in the quotes, or what they say about characters
TKAM Packet – Character Chart • Based on the quotations you and your group members discuss, add some characterization notes to the characters identified • What beginning ideas and descriptions are we the readers given?

Class Read • Chapters 2 and 3 of TKAM • Keep out TKAM packet and make notes on characterization • On a separate sheet of paper, write down/take notes of the following: • Questions you have about the story • Words you don’t know HMK: Chapters 4 & 5
