THE REPUBLIC OF POLAND • Poland has a population of over 38.5 million people, which makes it the sixth most populous member of the Europiean Union. • Poland is a democracy, with a president (Mr Komorowski) as a head of state, whose current constitution dates from 1997. The government structure centers on the Council of Ministers, led by a prime minister (Mr Tusk).

National Parks • There are 23 national parks in Poland, with total area of 315,000ha, which cover appx.1% of the country’s area. Polish National Parks are exceptional in Europe for their rang of wildlife, their size and varying geographical interest. Biebrza river
