Phrases. What is a phrase?. Phrase= group of words that adds meaning to a sentence but does not contain a subject and verb (functions as a noun, adjective, or adverb). Prepositional Phrase. Includes a preposition, object of the preposition and modifiers of that object. Adjective Phrase.

What is a phrase? • Phrase= group of words that adds meaning to a sentence but does not contain a subject and verb (functions as a noun, adjective, or adverb).
Prepositional Phrase • Includes a preposition, object of the preposition and modifiers of that object.
Adjective Phrase A prepositional phrase used as an adjective in the sentence. Generally comes after the word(s) they modify. Answer the questions: What kind? Which one? How many? How much?
Adverb Phrases • Prepositional phrase used as an adverb. • An adverb phrase modifies a verb, adjective, or adverb • Can be anywhere in the sentence • Answer the questions • When? • Where? • How? • Why? • How often? • How long? • To what extent?
