Boot philosophy 2-3 Philosophy • TAGS/VARIATIONS • “H” • ‘Stay’ call for Pin • ‘Comeback/Double Comebk • Touchdown BOOTLEG PACKAGE • “Bootlegs,” meaning we are going to fake a run in one direction, and roll the QB opposite the fake! These are excellent plays against LBs who overpursue against our best running plays! • All receivers use the same route rules for all types of Bootlegs (Post, Over, Pin Arrow, Go Pocket)! • In our basic boot package, the OLine uses ‘play action reach’ protection across the board, very similar to Slant (Inside Zone) but without going downfield! • In our “G” boot package, we pull the backside guard frontside, and slush the tackle to fill for him. Receiver route rules are the same! • KEYS to a successful play: • GREAT fakes! RB rolls over ball & sells it, QB follows w/eyes! • PAD LEVEL by linemen! • Linemen PREVENT PENETRATION across the board! • PIN ARROW is patient and handles the BSDE before releasing! - C L I C K H E R E T O R E T U R N T O S C R E E N / B O O T D I R E C T O R Y -
Rock-Luck Instructional M TRUST TEMPO DISCIPLINE PREPARATION SHARED RESPONSIBILITY BASICBOOT BS Outs:OVER ROUTE (See technique of FS Ins)—MINIMUM split. If there’s someone inside you already doing it, run a flat POST, breaking at 10 yards. BS Ins/TE:OVER route..+4 split…clean inside release, go under LB if needed, get over 2nd LB, get into QBs vision at 12-14 yds. Use “STAIRSTEP” if being trailed by anyone. PLAY ACTION “REACH” RULES *Use same basic assignment rules from ‘Reach’ family of runs *All linemen must cut splits to between 12 and 18 inches to help eliminate penetration! *Low Hats! *1st step Should be a 45 degree REACH step2nd step Should split the crotch of the defender in front3rd step Should bring contact. Lock on to 1st man you engage. -If no contact, stay in gap, find nearest LB, don’t cross L.O.S.-If you feel a guy start to split you, abort course & ‘twist’ him into pile/man in front of you! Your job is to clear safety traffic for the Over route.Run through far shoulder of nearest safety. Vs. a 2-safety look, straighten once past his shoulder. QB:Step to course of the run play indicated, extend ball after 1st step. LOOK at RBs numbers where you would hand the ball, PAUSE slightly to follow the RB’s course as he passes you. Snap head around and gain quick width and depth, find Pin Flat, seeing E.M.O.L.’s rush course as you do. If Flat is open, give it to him RIGHT NOW for maximum R.A.C. If flat defender widens with him from inside out, Keep escaping outside, find OVER through a clear lane. Pre-snap read for 2-safety look; v. 2 safety look find CB out of fake, hit Go Pocket if he collapses (Flat to Pocket to Over), just as on the 4 route! FS Ins/TE:“PIN” ARROW. Pin E.M.O.L. 2 counts, working to outside shoulder, then release to Flat 4-5 yards deep. Get head around! Lose your route if necessary to secure edge. BASE call tells you to pin 2nd man on/outs OT. STAY call tells you to pin your man, outside in, & not release R:Fake the run indicated by the #. SELL run by rolling over the ball on fake, bottom hand flat!
