I. Starting Point • European Council, Lisbon (March 23./24.2000): Strategic goal for Europe … „…to become the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world capable of sustainable economic growth…“
eLearning – an international product? • In the age of e-Learning, vocational training and education is loosing its local ties and developing to become an export article. • eLearning products as such are international products: they can be used any time and at any place. • Requirements for international e-learning offers are highly underestimated.
Economicalfacts supporting the Internationalisation of eLearning • high investments for development in advance • continuously decreasing durability of VET contents • multiple use of eLearning products within a short period required • International markets offer better opportunities to make use of those scale effects.
Global competition in eLearning Competitive advantages of Northern American providers on the European Market: • English as the lingua franca • Product development for large areas Chances of European eLearning providers • Good reputation of European Vocational Training Institutions • Wide ranging experience in training and cultural variety These advantages are not being used in a sufficient way for exportation of European eLearning products!
II. The idea • Collaboration of European eLearning experts is essential for enhancing the quality of eLearning products and meeting the challenges of international competition.
