Tarsal Bones • A.K.A. bones of ankle • Form posterior half of foot • Seven total • Two to remember: • Calcaneous (heel) • Talus
Metatarsals • Bones in body of foot • Meta = beyond, tarsal = ankle • Numbered I – V (1 – 5), beginning at large toe
Phalanges • Bones of toes (and fingers) • Large toe has two; the rest have three each
Phalanges • Numbered I – V (1 – 5) beginning with large toe • Also named by position on toe: • Proximal • Middle (or median) • Distal • Large toe has only proximal and distal

Visible Tendons of the Foot • Tendons of extensor digitorum longus • Extends toes 2 – 5 • Tendon of extensor hallicus longus • Extends big toe (hallicus = big toe) • Tendon of tibialis anterior • Calcaneal (achilles) tendon • Tendon of fibularis (peroneus) longus
Plantar Surface of Foot(the bottom of the foot) • Plantar aponeurosis • Flexor digitorum brevis • Flexes toes • Flexor hallicus longus (tendon of) • Flexes big toe • Abductor hallicus • Abducts big toe • Abductor digiti minimi • Abducts small toe
