  4. Semester Plan • Week 1 - Introduction To Module • Week 2 - Planning your production • Week 3 - Documentary filmmaking • Week 4 - Intro to lighting • Week 5 - Intro to sound • Week 9 - Progress meeting • Week 12 - Progress meeting Level 1 Film Technology

  5. Assessment • 1 five min film on DV tape • 1 five page group report • Sample of production documents (scripts, storyboard, breakdowns etc). • Peer assessment at week 9 • Peer assessment on final submission Level 1 Film Technology

  6. 5 Minute Film • Your film should demonstrate a good working knowledge of the camera and editing skills you learnt last year • It should also demonstrate that you have furthered you knowledge and improved your standard of work Level 1 Film Technology

  7. 5 Minute Film • You should demonstrate your understanding of this semesters lecture material in relation to lighting and sound • You should also demonstrate you ability to research independently and apply what you learn to your practical work Level 1 Film Technology

  8. 5 Page Group Report • This should back up the practical work and provide details of how you set up and completed your film, any independent research should be included • Conclusions and evaluations are important Level 1 Film Technology

  9. Sample Of Production Documents • Submit a representative sample of the documents used to plan the film Level 1 Film Technology

  10. Progress Reports, Week 9 and 12 • Attendance at these will be compulsory, you will need to bring rushes to allow us to comment on possible improvements on you work. • Peer assessment will be carried out at the first session and for the final submission Level 1 Film Technology

  11. Introduction To Job Roles • Within your groups try to define specific roles for each member • You will probably need to take on more than one job, and every member will need to contribute to the planning stages Level 1 Film Technology

  12. Producer • The producer raises money for a project, and they are often responsible for creating the entire package, from buying scripts to hiring crew and equipment • The line producer will be responsible for the day to day running of the production Level 1 Film Technology

Director • The director is responsible for translating the written script into visual terms • They will direct the actors performances • The level of involvement varies, from being the main artistic force, to directors who are bound by agreements with producers or studios Level 1 Film Technology

  14. Director Of Photography • Also called cinematographer, first cameraman or lighting cameraman • They work in close contact with the director, grip and lighting teams • They are responsible for composing shots, including framing, lighting and camera movement Level 1 Film Technology

  15. Camera Operator • On large scale productions more than one person will be responsible for operating the camera • For your production you could have a camera operator and camera assistant, the assistant will organise tapes and keep a camera report sheet or shot list Level 1 Film Technology

  16. Sound Recordist/Mixer • Responsible for gathering any production audio, including dialogue, on set sounds and buzz tracks • For your production this job can cover production and post productions sound such as foley or ADR Level 1 Film Technology

  17. Editor • In consultation with the director the editor will assemble the various shots, angles and takes into the complete film • The editor must be aware of shot continuity and how to tell a story visually • Assistant editors will carry out various functions including digitising and organising material Level 1 Film Technology

  19. Group Organisation • Groups of 4 or 5 based on last years scriptwriting groups • If you worked in pairs or threes you will need to combine with another group • For this weeks tutorials turn up to the same slot you were in last semester Level 1 Film Technology
