WORK WHILE IT IS DAY
Arise and Shine Isa. 60:1-3: 1“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you. 2See, darkness covers the earth and thick [“gross” – kjv] darkness is over the peoples, but the LORD rises upon you and His glory appears over you. 3Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.”
Work While It Is Day John 9:4-5:4As long as it is day, we must do the work of Him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
Light Is Getting Brighter,Darkness Is Getting Darker • Gross darkness, gloom increasing • Widespread spiritual blindness & ignorance (2 Cor. 4:3-4) • Perilous times promised (2 Tim. 3:1-5) • Greater glory is coming upon God’s Church
Blind to Truth 2 Cor. 4:3-4: 3And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
Terrible Perilous Times Ahead 2 Tim. 3:1: But mark this: There will be terrible[“perilous” – kjv] times in the last days.
Seven Ominous StormsFacing America(Charismaarticle (10/31/12) • Judgment for abortion • Judgment for homosexuality • Global economic crisis • Divided America • Radical Islam • Materialism & hedonism • Weakened Church
Light vs. Darkness Gen. 1:1-5: 1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. 3Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
Light vs. Darkness Gen. 1:1-5 (cont): 4God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. 5God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening, and there was morning — the first day.
God Made a Distinction • Light is “good” (darkness is BAD!) • God separated [Heb. badal = “distinguish, put a difference between”] light and darkness – He called them by two distinct names: day and night! • Modern culture calls good “evil” and evil “good” (Isa. 5:20)
Cultural Confusion Isa. 5:20: Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.
Two Distinct Groups 1 Thess. 5:4-9: 4But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. 5You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.6So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled.
Two Distinct Groups 1 Thess. 5:4-9 (cont.): 7For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
More Filthy, More Holy Rev. 22:11: He who is unjust, let him be unjust still[Gk. eti = “still, more, further”]; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still." [nkjv]
Let Both Grow Together • Wicked & righteous will both increase • Wheat & weeds grow together • Evil men will go from bad to worse (2 Tim. 3:13-14) • Wickedness will increase, love of most grow cold (Mat. 24:12) • Saints will grow in grace (2 Pet. 3:18) • Church will experience ever-increasing glory (2 Cor. 3:18)
Greater Glory Is ComingUpon The Church Hag. 2:6-9: 6“This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. 7I will shake all nations, and the Desired of All Nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,’ says the LORD Almighty.
Greater Glory Is ComingUpon The Church Hag. 2:6-9 (cont): 9‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the LORD Almighty.
City On A Hill Mat. 5:13-16: 13You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. 14You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
City On A Hill Mat. 5:13-16 (cont): 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
Be The Aroma Of Christ 2 Cor. 2:14-16: 14But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him. 15For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 16To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life. And who is equal to such a task?
Harvest Time Mat. 9:36-38: 36When Jesus saw the crowds, He had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Work While It Is Day • Preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15) • Preach the Word, do the work of an evangelist (2 Tim. 4:1-5) • Arise and shine for Jesus • Grow in grace, get closer to God • Let’s go out with a BANG in a final blaze of glory!
