Amish Beliefs All aspects of Amish life are dictated by a list of written or oral rules, known as Ordnung, which outlines the basics of the Amish faith and helps to define what it means to be Amish.
Amish Beliefs For an Amish person, the Ordnung may dictate almost every aspect of one's lifestyle, from dress and hair length to buggy style and farming techniques. The Ordnung varies from community to community and order to order, which explains why you will see some Amish riding in cars, while others don't even accept the use of battery-powered lights.
Amish leisure activates • Hunting: Amish hunt for sport, food, and in some cases, to bring home trophies • fishing: fishing allows outdoor enjoyment and possibly, dinner • camping and other outdoor activities: family-oriented activities such as camping and bird-watching are highly popular among Amish • sports: sports are enjoyed to varying degrees, yet remain controversial • board games: board games may include Scrabble, Life on the Farm, and other traditional games • card games: Amish do not gamble but enjoy a variety of card games for fun • solo hobbies like reading or sewing • letter-writing: letter-writing builds community and is a way of keeping in touch across distances
Amish work style The Amish people mainly prioritise themselves to the farm. It’s the way of life, that’s how they get the food they eat, or that’s the way they make money to help with other things. They branch them selves away from society so they work on he farm. The farm is there only source of income and most food, they go hunting for leisure (as stated in 2 slides above).
Traditions These are only some of the very specific traditions they hold: • Living a simple life, pulling themselves away from temptation and living in the middle of no where. • Working hard to grow food, and working on the farm to learn new skills and grow old ones. • The clothing they wear, The men wear black pants and jackets, while the women wear long, dark, long sleeved dresses with white aprons and capes. • they have literally interpreted the Bible, which means that they adopt specific dress codes and behaviour standards. • Photographs are not allowed because these are considered "graven images“.
Some Amish people don't even have cars, they ride around in a horse and carriage.
Would I join the Amish people? It would have to be a no for me, I don’t think I, a teenager of the 21st century, would be able to live with out my technologies, it would be very hard to just drop that and go to a community that lives a extremely simple life. From birth I have been exposed to growing technologies, and I have gotten everything I wanted, so for me to leave all that behind and go to a basic life, it would be one of the hardest things I would have to do in my whole life time.
Amish people The Amish community has been around for about 300 years, the technology in the world is growing, you would have to be a strong individual to hold back, and steer yourself away from temptation of the growing technology that is over powering this world. Personally I think that this community will not be able to stay as simple or basic as they would like to stay, because of all the growing technologies.
Thanks for taking the time to read my power point, I hope you learnt something new about the Amish
