Present Progressive (uses 2 verbs). Similar to adding – ing to a verb in English (He is talking.) Start with the verb estar (to be) Conjugate it Take the – ar off of the 2 nd verb and add – ando hablar (to talk) becomes hablando (talking)

  1. Present Progressive (uses 2 verbs) • Similar to adding –ing to a verb in English (He is talking.) • Start with the verb estar (to be) • Conjugate it • Take the –ar off of the 2nd verb and add –ando • hablar (to talk) becomes hablando (talking) • Take the –er or –ir off of the verb and add –iendo. • Comer (to eat) becomes comiendo (eating) • Escribir (to write) becomes escribiendo (writing)

  2. Examples: • I am talking.= Estoyhablando. • Felipe is eating.= Felipe estácomiendo. • We are talking. =Nosotrosestamoshablando.

  3. Mas… • When the stem of an –er or –irends in a vowel, change the –iendoto –yendo. • Example: leer (to read) becomes leyendo (reading) • Some –ir verbs have a stem change • Example: decir (to say, to tell) becomes diciendo (saying) • Pronouns can come before the form of estar or can be attached to the –ndo form of the verb. • Example: Estoyarreglándome= Me estoyarreglando
