  6. Technology Thank You PTA - $10,000 worth of laptops (housed in the library) 2 laptop carts with 20 computers each Promethean Boards & Mimio Boards Cable/video broadcasting class (Live Broadcast every Monday, Wednesday, Friday) At least 3 computers in every room

  7. ABSENCES Any student, age 7 to 18, must meet the required compulsory attendance law 8th grade students taking high school courses for credit (Reading 1, Home Economics 1, Agriscience 1) may not miss more than five (5) nonexempt excused absences, unexcused absences, suspensions per semester Elementary students may not miss more than ten (10) days of nonexempt excused absences, unexcused absences, suspensions per semester Students in grades K-8 who miss more than three (3) hours of instructional time during the school day will be considered absent for the entire day Students participating in a school sponsored activity/field trip are considered present at school

Type 1 - Exempted, Excused * student allowed to make up the work * note from a Doctor * does NOT count toward the attendance requirements Type 2 - Non-Exempted, Excused * personal illness or serious illness, documented by parent note * student allowed to make up work * does count toward the attendance requirements ABSENCES

Type 3 – Unexcused Absence * Note not provided * student NOT allowed to make up work * does count toward the attendance requirements Type 4 – Suspensions * Non-exempted absences * students are allowed to make up work (value of the work is determined by the discipline guidelines) * does count toward the attendance requirements ABSENCES

Seat Time Recovery Excuses for ALL absence must be presented in writing within two (2) days of the absence Students in danger of failing due to excessive absences may be allowed to make up missed seat time held outside of the regular school day -- FWJH has recovery time on select Saturday mornings (8:00a.m.-12:00p.m.) Makeup sessions before the end of the current semester (highs school credit) or the end of the year for elementary/junior high students

  11. Make up Work Remember: Must have a note to make up work, if not You receive a Zero. The Student is responsiblefor making arrangements with his/her teacher within 3 days of his/her return to school after an absence.

  12. Tardies “ Your body must be through the threshold of the door” 1st tardy is on the house 2nd tardy is an “Official” Warning 3rd tardy is an after school detention 4th tardy is an after school detention 5th tardy is a Saturday detention 6th tardy is an In-School suspension This is per quarter

  13. Procedures Student Check In Front Office Students arriving after 7:55a.m. bell – MUST be signed in through the front office by a Parent or Guardian

Procedures Student Check Out Check-Out – only parent or guardian on the emergency card to check out Office staff WILLask for a Driver’s License – please understand that this is for Safety reasons For Safety Reasons – No Check outs after 2:30 All transportation changes must be in writing – bus notes must have administrative approval Students do not initiate process by calling home first Must sign out/sign in the book

  17. After School Detention Tuesdays / Thursdays – 3:00 P.M.– 4:00 P.M. You miss it –you must serve a Saturday Detention Will be given 24 hour notification.

  18. Saturday Detention Saturdays--- 8:00 A.M. -- 12:00 P.M. Student must be in school uniform Don’t be late!!!!!!!! You miss it = Suspension from School

  19. Bullying Not tolerated and is a suspendable offense It is a form of aggression which occurs when a person (s) willfully subjects another person to an intentional, unwanted and unprovoked, hurtful, verbal and/or physical action (s) at any school site or school-sponsored event.

  21. Parent – Teacher Communication Parents with concerns about their child’s performance in class should speak with teacher before speaking to administration Conferences can be set up through the Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Jackie Nettles or front office

  22. Incentive Program 6 - 8th Grade students may attend Fifth Ward Junior High dances provided they have met the requirements 9 weeks honor roll breakfast Student of the Month celebrations The FISH Philosophy will be the theme of our PBS Program.

  23. Dances 6th-8th Grade students 1 per nine weeks 4th & 5th Grade students 1 per semester All students must be in Good standing academically and meet the discipline requirements Can’t leave until dance is over or a parent signs the student out

  24. Food and Beverages Water is acceptable in the classroom and/or building Food and Sport Drinks are not allowed in school building Energy drinks and coffee are not allowed on campus No lunch Deliveries

Intangibles Piercing only allowed on ear lobes Radios, CD, Mp3, IPOD, Pagers, Cell Phones, Not Allowed Item seen (including in the pocket of student’s pants) - it is confiscated, picked up by parent & student issued a Warning Item is heard (rings, music playing, etc) – it is confiscated, picked up by parent & student will serve an After School Detention Item in use – it is confiscated, picked up by parent & student will serve a Saturday Detention 2nd offense - item confiscated, picked up by parent & Student will serve a Saturday Detention 3rd offense - item confiscated, picked up by parent & Student will serve an In-School Suspension 4th offense – item confiscated, picked up by parent & Student will receive a 3 day Out of School Suspension

  26. Intangibles Hats & bandannas - Not Allowed No sunglasses on top of head No hoods worn in the school building No birthday deliveries to school

Uniform/ Dress Code Shirts/tops must be polo style solid color Navy Blue or White with collar Undershirt must be solid Navy Blue or White Cold weather long sleeve t-shirt/ turtle necks must be solid Navy Blue or White Outer wear must zip, snap or button from top to bottom Pullovers, sweatshirts or jackets permitted if Navy Blue or White

Four Pocket Rule Shirts may not hang below the pockets (front and back) Strongly recommend students wear uniforms that fit properly Strongly recommend students wear belts Bottoms - cotton twill pants Khaki or sand color Shorts, skirts, and skorts must be dress code length (Finger tip) Bottom garments must be secured at waist

  29. Oversized/Undersized/Extreme Unreasonably oversized/undersized shirts, pants, sweatshirts, and pullovers will be determined by the Principal’s discretion

  30. Personal Grooming Males… Hair length not below base of collared shirt Afros 3 inches in height Hair must be clean and natural color Hair must not cover eyes Pictures, symbols, letters, and numbers not allowed Facial Hair no Goatees

  31. Personal Grooming Females... Hair must be in conventional style No curlers, rollers, or teased hair Hair must be clean and natural color Pictures, symbols, letters, and numbers not allowed Bling/bling accessories must be 1 color

  32. Hair arranged in a manner that is detrimental or a distraction to the performance of normal educational activities will be prohibited CAUTION!! CAUTION!! CAUTION!!

  33. Car/Bus Line Morning Drop Off No Changes Afternoon Pick-Up Bus Loading - will be in the Front Parking Circle a) Students will proceed through the Junior High hall and load their respective bus

Afternoon Pick Up Car Line – will be in the rear parking area near the Gymnasium a) Cars will enter gate 3 - closest to Covington (signs posted) b) Cars will take a left and proceed to the 3rd parking bay (sign posted with an arrow) and proceed toward the school building and take a right - to “snake” through the 2nd parking bay – cars will then take a left and proceed down the road to the horseshoe leading to the gym door c) Teacher will call the student(s) name d) Car line will exit through the gate 1 (closest to the 4th/5th building) to Hwy. 21

  35. Mrs. Hesson will have a Car line table in the gym Parents will be provided paper and a plastic sleeve to write their child/children’s name(s) The signage is to be placed in the left corner of the front windshield
