  2. CDMP GOAL Make major climate databases available via the world wide web through rescue and preservation Create image archive of manuscript records Digitize data from manuscript records Make images accessible via internet/world wide web (WSSRD)

  3. CDMP MANAGEMENT The program is managed by the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service’s National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) located in Asheville, NC.

  4. CDMP PROGRAM ACTIVITIES • Keying of observations into digital data bases • Imaging original records whether on paper, microform, or photographs • Vectorizing U.S. shorelines • digitizing analog recordings.

  5. CDMP PROGRAM ACTIVITIES(Continued) CDMP supported the imaging of meteorological records in six African countries CDMP supported the National Weather Service n working with African countries to digitize meteorological data

CDMP PROGRAM ACTIVITIES(Continued) • Projects underway in Africa & Central America • Helped arrange agreements and projects in Canada, Germany, China and World Meteorological Organization’s Library • Imaging and digitizing lightship log books from Finland & Sweden • Imaging and digitizing marine records in U.. National archives • Imaging and digitizing observing station histories • Supporting the development of a station history data base system • Discussion underway with representatives from the UK, Netherlands, Germany, and Spain for the possibility of keying some of their early European Ship logs data

  7. Imaged Document Database • Web Search Store Retrieve Display (WSSRD) • A web accessible image database system • Now holds over 40 million imaged documents of NOAA documents • Managed by Information Manufacturing Corporation for NOAA • Archive copy of images maintained by NCDC
