Video Broadcast over L2 P2MP LSPOverview • Goal: • Define scenarios for L1 and L2 transport of broadcast video • Compare L1 transport of broadcast video streams with L2 transport • Discuss advantages and disadvantages of different layers • Use szenarios as input for further work (requirements, optimization, etc.) • The following slides will give an overview about deployment scenarios for L2 video broadcast transport
Video Broadcast over L2 P2MP LSPCurrent State • In many cases special networks are build on top of SDH or PDH • Allowing real time transport of broadcast quality video • Uncompressed video • Currently 300 MBit/s bandwidth per stream • Multiple receivers (for same stream) • Minimal delay • Reconfiguration on customer requirements necessary
Video Broadcast over L2 P2MP LSPWhy L2? • Many customers need a single platform for realtime and non realtime (file) transport • Use a single network independent of traffic? • Current routers are able to handle high bandwidth traffic with QoS • Convergence of technologies • Use MPLS as transport layer for different network types • Support of Point to Multipoint Distribution on the network level
Video Broadcast over L2 P2MP LSPExample Scenario 1 (BT) • Video Distribution System • About 20 Core Nodes • 2.5 GBit/s links • Uses currently static configured P2MP LSPs • End-to-end latency about 200us (maximum) • Configuration „On Demand“ depending on requirements (topology) • Diameter 8 Hops (maximum) • Note: FT is also performing some functional tests using P2MP LSP
Video Broadcast over L2 P2MP LSPExample Scenario 1, Network reconfiguration (BT) • Network from 19:30 – 20:00 • Network from 19:00 – 19:30
Video Broadcast over L2 P2MP LSPOpen Points and Outlook, Future Scenarios • Open Points (short term deployment) • Symmetric vs. Asymmetric traffic • P2MP LSPs are still under standardization (IETF) number of implementations • Future Scenario • Dynamic tear down and set up of connectivity (including dynamic branches) • Higher number of nodes (and leafs) • Dynamic configuration on customer requirements (signalling) • 1.5 GBit/s streams for the future (utra high defintion video for cinemas)
