  4. ELCA Congregational Vitality Team • Supports all 65 synods • Promote vitality in 9,300+ congregations and new starts • 459 new ministries currently under development • 519 new ministries have been organized since birth of ELCA in 1988

  5. 750+ leaders participated in Congregational Vitality Trainings inpast year • 350 leaders expected in next training in Baltimore, MDin August

  6. In 2018, ELCA World Hunger was at work in over 60 countries, including right here in the U.S. In addition to your local congregational efforts to love and serve neighbors, ELCA World Hunger accompanies congregations and your partners through Domestic Hunger Grants.

  7. Waynesboro Area Refuge Ministry • WARM provides 6,500-7,000 meals to food insecure adults experiencing homelessness • Over 200 community members find shelter, support with goal of housing for all

  8. ELCA World Hunger launched the Big Dream Grant • IMPACT: Interfaith Movement Promoting Action by Congregations Together • Builds power with a coalition of local congregations in Charlottesville to address root causes of poverty and lack of affordable housing

  9. THANK YOU! Your generosity was record breaking. In 2018, gifts to ELCA World Hunger totaled over $23.5 million, marking the largest annual income in the ministry’s history.

  10. Lutheran Disaster Response In 2018, internationally, Lutheran Disaster Response responded to47 emergencies in 33 countries. Domestically, we responded to 32 emergencies in 19 states/territories.

  11. Lutheran Disaster Response As LDR walked with families and communities, providing hope and healing to people rebuilding their lives after disasters, over $11.5 million was given in support of Lutheran Disaster Response this past year. Over $153,000 was given by your synod alone.

  12. THE CAMPAIGN FOR THE ELCA • As of Feb. 28 • $230 million total impact  • $182 million gifts & commitments  • $48 million in planned gifts • Gifts from individuals and congregations in Virginia Synod totaled over $258,000

  13. At the 2019 Churchwide Assembly, the ELCA will issue an apology to People of African Descent regarding the church’s complicity in slavery and the legacy of racism still present in the ELCA, United States and globally.

  14. International engagement to protect migrant children, youth and families  • 116 welcoming and sanctuary congregations in 30 synods in all 9 regions in the ELCA  • 8 Guardian Angel programs – 6 new this year in Omaha, Denver, Boston, Atlanta, Detroit and Minneapolis/St Paul
